Brand is fading
GAP has experienced a decrease in brand equity over the past few years. This is due in part to fast-fashion competition and consumer preference changes (Kumar (2018)). GAP has been perceived by many as an unoriginal brand that lacks differentiation from more trendy retailers. Kim, 2019. GAP should create a unique brand identity to appeal to modern consumers in order for it’s brand equity and reputation to be revived. It could invest in product design and quality, emphasize sustainability, or leverage digital marketing platforms to provide a memorable customer experience. GAP needs to invest in influencer marketing, which will help to build brand loyalty and increase brand awareness, as well create partnerships with brands that can gain access to customers (Kumar 2018, 2018).
