What is Glucogenic Amino acids?
Some essential amino acids, called glucosogenic amino acids, can be converted into glucose. Because it permits the creation of glucose from noncarbohydrate sources, this conversion is crucial for maintaining blood glucose levels. The Krebs cycle is also dependent on Glucogenic Amino Acids for energy production. The eight essential glucogenic amino acids are alanine, arginine, cysteine, glutamine, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine (Alvarez-Leite & Koo, 2020; Miyazaki et al., 2019). Out of providing energy, the glucogenic amino acid also play a role in various metabolic processes including protein synthesis, fat acid synthesis, and formation of hormones and lipids. Miyazaki and colleagues, 2019, say that alanine, which is a glucogenic methyl amino acid, plays an important role in both the production of glucose and fatty acids. Arginine is another glucogenic amino acid that is involved in the production of hormones such as insulin and growth hormone (Alvarez-Leite & Koo, 2020).
