There is a school of philosophy that develops only for those of us who live in the real world: Stoicism. It’s a concept that aims to improve us as individuals, parents and professionals by strengthening our willpower and making us happier, more ethical and wiser. Some of history’s greatest leaders have demonstrated perseverance. It has been used by kings, presidents, artists, writers and businessmen. Aurelius Marcus (Klincewicz, 2019). Stoics have influenced many, including Frederick the Great, Montaigne, Thomas Jefferson, John Stuart Mill, Theodore Roosevelt, Adam Smith, and General James Mattis, among others . Stoicism is not an obscure field of academic study, but a weapon used in the quest for self-control, perseverance, and wisdom—something a person wields in order to live a good life. Many of history’s greatest thinkers undoubtedly recognized Stoicism and actively sought it out.
