Subliminal advertising
For many years subliminal advertising has been controversial. Some claim it’s effective, while others say it doesn’t. Although there are no clear answers to the question, evidence suggests that subliminal advertisements may be able to have an effect on some people. The American Psychological Association found that participants who had been exposed to subliminal messages responded stronger to them than people who weren’t (APA 2018). ABC News conducted a survey and found that nearly half of those surveyed thought they’d been affected by subliminal messages at some time in their lives. Although these are encouraging results, scientists have not yet found any evidence that subliminal advertisements is effective 100% of the time. Subliminal advertising’s effectiveness is currently in doubt. More research will be needed to confirm its effectiveness.
