It is neither desirable nor possible for governments to regulate the dissemination of information to stop the spread of misinformation and disinformation. This outcome is undesirable because there is no guarantee that a possible solution to a problem is immune to political appropriation. Nor is it possible without departing significantly from First Amendment case law and providing precise definitions of misinformation and disinformation.
