The Self and Middle Adulthood: Questions to Consider
Midlife, or middle adulthood, occurs typically between the ages 40 and 65. This stage is significant for psychological and socio-cultural development. This stage can present individuals with a range of problems and questions about their identity. An identity crisis is one issue that can occur in middle adulthood. This happens when people question their lives and ask themselves what they are doing. These feelings may arise for people who are at a crossroads in their lives, or those with a sense of identity crisis. A second issue is to recognize one’s mortality. Neugarten (2018).
