The Separation Techniques and Its Mode of Action
There are many methods that can be used to remove different parts from a mix. Different methods can be employed depending on what mode of action they are. Distillation, filtration and chromatography are the three most common modes of operation. A process that separates mixtures by their boiling points is called distillation. It is a common technique used in the production of alcoholic beverages. Whiskey is made by distilling beer. (Vidal, et al. 2020). The alcohol is evaporated at the right temperature and collected in separate containers.
Filtration can be described as a process that uses granularity to determine the sizes of mixtures. It is used frequently in the production process of drinking water. Water is first passed through filters to remove particles larger than specified sizes. (Jones and al., 2002).
The process of chromatography is used to distinguish mixtures according to their chemical properties. This method is commonly used for the analysis and identification of drugs, food, and other substances. Gas chromatography, for example, is used to identify and separate components in a mixture. (Brien, et al. 2016). This method is used frequently in forensic science. Cont…..
