Mandatory Cultural Training Hospitals
Healthcare professionals who receive cultural training can help improve their ability to care for patients of different cultural backgrounds. It’s a well-known fact that this is a benefit. Because healthcare professionals can better recognize and understand the cultural values and beliefs of their patients through cultural training, this can result in improved communication with them and a more positive patient-doctor relationship. Additionally, healthcare professionals can benefit from cultural training to help avoid cultural mistakes and to not inadvertently harm patients by misunderstandings. Evidence is mounting to show the positive effects of cultural training for healthcare professionals. A systematic review that was published in 2015 showed that cultural training programs were linked to improved patient satisfaction as well as increased cultural competence of healthcare workers (Phelan and al. 2015).
