The ability to understand and regulate the emotions of oneself and those around you is known as emotional intelligence or EI (Lee, 2019). People with high emotional intelligence are aware of their feelings, the meaning behind them, and how those feelings affect others. Emotional intelligence is critical to successful leadership. Self-confidence means that you are always aware of how you feel and how your actions and emotions may affect those around you. When you’re in a leadership position, self-confidence also means acting with humility, with a clear understanding of your talents and weaknesses. Effective self-regulating leaders rarely verbally attack others, make rash or emotional decisions, stereotype, or violate their ethical principles. Maintaining control is key to self-regulation.
