I may not be able to judge how safe my groceries are because I buy at the grocery store a lot. I tend to think that certain diseases or viruses may threaten the safety of our food production (Ucar et al., 2017). Foodborne illness can be caused by pathogenic bacteria, viruses or parasites that contaminate food. Another word for such bacteria, viruses, or protozoa is “pathogen.” Knowing and practicing proper food handling techniques is crucial, as eating spoiled food can lead to serious and even fatal infections. Food safety, as defined by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), is the assurance that food will not harm consumers when prepared and/or eaten according to its intended use. Foodborne illness is very common worldwide (World Health Organization, 2022). Foodborne illness is spread by contaminating food that exhibits its symptoms, and then endangering the health of individuals and societies through consumption of these items.
