Contributions to Dr Charles W Thomas, Psychologist
Charles W. Thomas, a pioneering social psychologist and researcher in the field. His work on social influence and conformity, which includes the “Asch Conformity Experiments”, is probably his most well-known. Thomas ran a series experiment in 1950s where he gave subjects three lines of different lengths, and then asked them which one matched that of the fourth (Asch 2020). Thomas had confederates give incorrect answers to many of his trials. The subjects were much more likely than their own responses to be conformed to by these confederates (Asch. 2020). Thomas’s studies on conformity, social influence and other influences had major impacts on understanding how individuals’ behavior can be influenced. He also contributed significantly to the creation of many theories and models in psychology. Thomas was also a pioneer in research into conformity. His work included important studies on persuasion and attitudes, as well as the creation of the source credibility model. This describes how factors affect the success of a speaker when persuading an audience. Charles W. Thomas’s contributions to social psychology are invaluable. These have helped us to understand the impact of social influence on human behavior. Cont…
