The National Athletic Association last revised its physical education recommendations in 2004. At the time, many groups participated in physical education classes (Kelly, 2019). The American Alliance for Health, Sports, Recreation and Dance is a federation of five organizations. Five core bolt standards form the basis of the national SHAPE America standard. These anchor standards reflect the capabilities of a physically able person and apply to all grade levels. Criterion 1: A physically able person is proficient in a range of motor skills and movement patterns (Lacy & Williams, 2018). Standard 2: A physically literate person applies knowledge of ideas, principles, and methods related to performance and sport. Standard 3: A physically literate individual possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve and maintain levels of physical activity and fitness beneficial to health. Physically educated individuals demonstrate appropriate social and personal behavior that respects themselves and others.
