AcetylCoA’s Role in Cells Energy and Metabolism
AcetylCoA, a crucial molecule in cellular metabolism is also important in energy turnover. It plays an integral role in both aerobic and anaerobic respiration’s metabolic pathways. Acetyl-CoA is an essential component of the energy conversion process. Acetyl-CoA can be produced through the chemical reactions taking place within the cells’ mitochondria. This cycle produces acetylcoA, which then is used to create ATP. AcetylCoA can also be used to produce fatty acids and cholesterol. The importance of acetylcoA has been clarified in recent years. Studies have demonstrated that acetylCoA plays a role in controlling genes responsible for cell growth and metabolism. (Ho et. al., 2018).
