Mass Media and Society
Calvin Klein’s CK One perfume advertisement is an example of a mass-media campaign that glorifies or promotes sex. Advertisements that feature models in sexually explicit poses are often criticized because they objectify and sexualize both women and men (Dworkin 2019, 2019). The marketing of horror movies, often featuring graphic violence and explicit content, is another example. In order to draw people in, trailers and posters of these movies often feature the most disturbing and violent scenes (Dworkin 2019, 2019). Grand Theft Auto, Mortal Kombat and other video games have been criticised for glorifying violence and encouraging aggressive behaviour (Dworkin 2019, 2019). These types of content and images are generally met with mixed reactions from society.
