ERPG Management Style The Home Depot
Martinez and Jarillo created the ERPG model in 1990. This suggests there are three types: proactive, reactive and entrepreneurial. This is a measure of how proactive and innovative an organization responds to changing environmental conditions. Based on what I have seen, it is impossible to identify the management style used by The Home Depot. Based on the ERPG models description, however, I can deduce any coordination mechanisms necessary. Martinez and Jarillo (2018) state that organizations with an entrepreneurial approach tend to be more proactive and creative in solving problems. To stay ahead of their competition, they may resort to risk-taking and experimentation to find solutions. They also use learning from mistakes to adapt to market changes. Organizations that employ a reactive management approach tend to be less proactive and more cautious when it comes to solving problems. To respond to changing environments, they may employ mechanisms like planning, control and monitoring. Companies that are proactive in managing the environment tend to be more flexible and responsive to changing circumstances. In order to keep up with the rest of the market, these organizations may employ partnerships, networking and strategic planning. Mintzberg (2019) explains that coordination mechanisms refer to the way an organisation coordinates and allocates resources to reach its objectives.
