The Chemical Reaction to the Hydrogen Peroxide Breakdown in the Presence Of the Enzyme Katalase
H2O2, which is an naturally occurring compound, can be degraded by enzyme catalase. In the presence of enzyme catalase, the chemical reaction is called 2H2O2. 2H2O + O2. This reaction is facilitated by the enzyme catalase, which lowers the activation energies. Catalase, a strong oxidizing agent responsible for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and water (Gul and al., 2016). Reaction of hydrogen peroxide with catalase is two-step. First, the enzyme catalase is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide molecules. The second step involves the reduction of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen (Babic & Kaur, 2002). In this reaction, the enzyme catalase is a catalyst. This means that the enzyme catalase accelerates the process but it does not become consumed. Exothermic reactions are the first step in the reaction. The second, which is the hydrogen peroxide reduction, is the exothermic one. Cont….
