In my opinion, Frederick Douglass was always a patriot and a patriot, even though he denied claims to the contrary during the years when he believed that the US Constitution supported slavery (Stoddard, 2021). Patriots are interested in their country’s politics because they love them, even if they do so inappropriately. The best of them gave their lives willingly and generously to the progress of their country, partly because they loved it, and partly because they were inspired to take on challenging tasks. Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) was widely regarded as a preeminent black American leader and voice of the people from the beginning of the Civil War until his death. Douglas’s writing focuses primarily on creating a heroic image for himself, encouraging African-Americans to believe that their race need not always be an obstacle to the realization of the American Dream, and reminding white people of their responsibility to support the dream of equal access to the American Dream for all Americans (Sch.
