Game Theory, Artificial Intelligence and Video Games
As video games become more complex, they draw on many different technologies and strategies. One of the strategies that is being used to improve decision making and to anticipate opponents’ behavior is game theory. Artificial intelligence (AI), on the other hand, is being used to build more immersive virtual environments. Artificial intelligence (AI) allows games to adapt and respond to players’ behavior. This creates a new gaming experience every time. AI-based algorithms have the ability to quickly analyse situations and gather data about competitors in order to find weaknesses and develop new strategies. Ai can also help to create realistic and lifelike simulations and increase the authenticity of virtual environments. Recent video games like “The Last of Us Part II”, (Chang 2021), and “Cyberpunk 2020” (Hesseldahl 2020) make use of AI to generate advanced artificial characters as well as lifelike simulations. To create a more interactive gaming experience, game theory and artificial intelligence can be combined. AI can be used for creating dynamic games that react to players’ decisions and adjust to every individual play style. Intelligent NPCs can be created by AI, which allows for more strategic dialog and allows players to use game theory to win (Simon 2015). Gaming theory and AI have become integral elements of modern videogames, making the experience much more immersive and realistic. Game theory and AI can be combined to make dynamic gaming environments where players are able to test and experiment with their gaming strategies. Cont…
