Theory of Developmental Psychology
The scientific study of the causes and effects of people’s behavior changes over time is called developmental psychology (Babakr, et al. 2019, 2019). There are several main theoretical approaches to developmental psychology. Jean Piaget developed cognitive development theory. It focuses on the way individuals learn and use information. Albert Bandura created social learning theory. This theory focuses on how imitation and observation are important in learning. Evolutionary psychology applies evolutionary theory in the study of human behavior and development. Urie Bronfenbrenner created ecological systems theory. This theory focuses upon the influence of the environment on development. Currently, there are several issues that are impacting human development, including the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on social and emotional development, increasing rates of technology use and its impact on cognitive development, and growing concerns about climate change and its potential impacts on physical and psychological well-being (Santos & Toomey, 2018).
