ACA Code of Ethics and NAADAC Code of Ethics
Gerson, 2019. The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (ACA) is a collection of guidelines for counselors that provides advice and guidance in the practice of counseling (Gerson 2019, 2019). This code outlines the principles and values that counselors should follow and helps them make the right decisions for their clients as well as the profession. Particularly relevant for counselors who work with substance abuse clients, the ACA Code of Ethics contains several provisions. Counselors are required by the ACA Code of Ethics to ensure that their clients’ welfare is prioritized and they take all necessary steps to safeguard them against harm. Counselors who work with substance abuse clients should take care to keep their client’s information confidential and ensure that they do not expose their clients to harm by their counseling activities. Counselors must be informed about ethical and legal issues in counseling and aware of possible consequences of their actions according to the ACA Code of Ethics (Gerson 2019).
