Nike and Ethical Issues
Nike is an example of a company currently having a serious ethical dilemma. Nike came under fire for the treatment it gave factory workers in Southeast Asia. This included allegations of poor wages, working long hours and unsafe conditions. The ethical question is impacting Nike’s performance, morale and public perception in many ways. A negative media coverage could result in decreased trust in the brand and lower profits. Low morale and employee discontent could impact the company’s productivity, overall performance, and profitability. Nike may also suffer from a negative image due to the way the public perceives its labor practices. As an OD consultant I recommend several actions to improve Nike’s ethics guidelines and behavior. I’d first conduct an in-depth assessment of Nike’s ethical policies and practices, including gathering feedback from stakeholders and employees. Based on my assessment, I’d recommend that specific improvements or changes be made to the company’s policies and procedures, including implementing higher labor standards or improving transparency in supply chain management.
