American politics are strongly influenced by the concept of individualism. Smith (2018). It’s the belief that individual should have the right to pursue their goals and interests, without the interference of the government or any external forces. It is commonly reflected in U.S. government policies and practices, where individual freedoms are prioritized over collective or communal welfare. Although the U.S. government offers subsidies to help people buy insurance, it doesn’t have universal health care like most other developed nations. The government does not provide healthcare for everyone, but individuals can obtain and pay for their own health insurance. In the United States, people are generally free to pursue their own interests, regardless of whether it causes injury to others. The principle of freedom of action, also known as “freedom to act,” is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. (Jones 2020).
